Mr. Lacy Pearl Dumas departed this earthly life of Thursday, February3, 2011. He was born September 16, 1927 in Montgomery County, North Carolina.
He had a passion for his work and was known for being a firm but loving family man.Lacy retired from Borden Dairy, where he worked for 18 years. You could tell by his conversations how much he loved his job. He loved gardening and was especially proud of his tomatoes. Also, Lacy enjoyed cooking, being around his family, watching western movies, playing cards and riding to the mountains with his friend Abraham.
Lacy was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Dumas(Samuel Sr.); father, Grant Baldwin; sisters, Zena Mae Dumas and Naomi (Snook) Dumas, brothers, Clifford Dumas and Samuel Dumas,Jr; granddaughter, Anitra Dumas;sister-in-law, Hazel Alexander and son-in-law, John Brevard.
Lacy leaves to cherish his memory; his wife, Grace Dumas of Fort Washington,MD; children, Lauren Brevard, Michelle Dumas, Lacy Dumas, Jr., Tarra "Todd" Dumas, James "Lonnie" Dumas (wife Marissa) of Maryland, Hollis Rorie (husband Otis), Debora Hendrix (husband Louis) of Greensboro,NC and Tony Dumas; 21 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren, he often referred to them as "Pumpkin" and "Sweet Thang"; sister, Dorothy Black of New Haven, CT; brother, Larry Jones of New York; sisters-in-law, Rosa Dumas of High Point, NC, Lilly Holly of Winston Salem, NC and Mable Dumas of Connecticut.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Service Chapel. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the chaepl from 12:30 until 1:00 p.m.
